1 crash becomes 2 car accidents on Route 15 -- 4 injured

Connecticut's busy highways and byways can make it dangerous to have even a minor car wreck. Some car accidents ultimately involve more vehicles because other drivers are either unable to stop or are not paying adequate attention to the traffic in front of them to stop in time to avoid the initial crash. Police say this is what happened in a recent accident that injured four people.

The incident occurred on a Friday afternoon at approximately 1:30 p.m. As two northbound vehicles approached the Interstate 91 interchange on Route 15, they collided. That crash was considered to be minor.

A third northbound vehicle was able stopped in time to avoid colliding with the first two cars, but the driver of a pickup truck behind the third vehicle was not. The pickup crashed into the back of the third car. That impact pushed the car into one of the two vehicles involved in the first wreck and spun it around.

The 39-year-old driver of the third car, his 34-year-old passenger and an infant all suffered injuries. The injuries suffered by the driver and the baby were considered serious enough to necessitate a helicopter transport to Hartford Hospital. A fourth person, who was one of the drivers from the original crash, was taken to a hospital in the area to be evaluated. The current conditions of the injured parties is not known.

Due to the number of drivers involved in the crash, more than one person may face claims for financial liability. In any personal injury claims filed in a Connecticut court as a result of this incident, the potential negligence of each driver will need to be assessed, based upon the evidence offered in support of the claims. Once the court makes a determination regarding negligence, damages typcially seen in car accidents may be awarded to the victims.
