Many motorcycle accidents end in serious injury or death

Many people enjoy riding motorcycles and/or use them as their primary source of transportation. Even when Connecticut motorcycle riders and their passengers wear helmets and other protective gear, they are nowhere near as safe as the occupants of other vehicles. Motorcycle accidents often result in serious injuries or the loss of life.

A 56-year-old Connecticut man loved riding his motorcycle. He and his beloved, a 53-year-old woman, were out riding southbound on Interstate 95 on a recent Saturday at approximately 6 p.m. The motorcycle was in the left lane and a Jeep, driven by a 36-year-old man, was in the center lane.

Troopers with the Connecticut State Police report that the motorcycle somehow came into contact with the Jeep. During the impact, the driver and passenger on the motorcycle were thrown off it. When emergency personnel arrived, the two were clinging to life. Even though they were transported to an area hospital, the injuries they suffered were simply too severe, and both were pronounced dead at the hospital. The accident was still under investigation at last report.

Even though the two may have been a couple, the passenger's family is not precluded from exercising its right to file a wrongful death claim against the estate of the motorcycle driver. If it is shown through applicable evidence that her death was due to the negligence of another, the family may receive restitution for the monetary damages incurred in the aftermath of her death. As would be the case in other motorcycle accidents, any monies awarded could help the family with the financial losses they have incurred, and may continue to incur in the future.
