Police often look for witnesses while investigating car accidents

Some Connecticut accident investigations can be completed with the evidence found and statements taken at the scene of a crash. Some car accidents, however, require further inquiry in order to fully understand what happened. In those cases, officials often ask for anyone who has witnessed an accident to contact them in order to obtain as complete a picture as possible.

This is the case in a recent accident that took place on the Berlin Turnpike. At approximately 7:30 p.m., a car struck a woman. Emergency medical personnel managed to get her to Hartford Hospital. Unfortunately, the efforts of medical personnel at the hospital were not able to save the 56-year-old woman's life.

The driver of the car remained at the scene and reportedly cooperated with police. No one in the car suffered any injuries in the crash. A portion of the roadway was closed until approximately 11 p.m. while an accident reconstruction team conducted an investigation. At last report, charges had not been filed, and no information regarding whether that might change was provided.

While the investigation is concluded and that determination is made, the family of the woman killed is forced to deal with her loss. This also includes confronting the expenses that typically accompany these types of tragedies. The family may choose to consider filing a wrongful death claim in an attempt to receive restitution for those financial losses. One question that has not yet been answered is why the woman was walking on such a busy roadway? Nevertheless, if any evidence provided by the family to a Connecticut civil court documents that the woman's death was due to the negligence of another, a monetary judgment consistent with others entered in similar car accidents may be entered.
