Locating drivers in hit-and-run car accidents can be challenging

When a Connecticut driver fails to remain at the scene of an accident, it could be because he or she has some sort of legal issue (such as outstanding warrants) that could lead to consequences apart from the accident. However, that does not excuse drivers who flee from the scenes of car accidents -- especially if it is determined that person was responsible for the crash and any injuries or deaths that occurred. Not only does the responsible driver need to be brought to justice, but knowing what happened to a loved one can help the victim's family find some closure.

The family of a Connecticut college student might be able to receive some answers. Police believe they have located the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run accident that killed the student. A police officer who was on the way home after his shift discovered the damaged vehicle. At last report, the person believed to be driving the vehicle when it sustained damage was cooperating with police.

Someone found the victim's body on Route 32 on the side of the road after the driver that struck him failed to remain at the scene. That person contacted 911 at approximately 2 a.m. Even though emergency personnel rushed the victim to the hospital, he died from his injuries.

Now that it appears that police have found the driver who took the life of the victim, his family may exercise its right to file a wrongful death claim against that person. In order for a civil court to consider awarding the family damages typically seen in hit-and-run car accidents, negligence must first be proved. A successful claim could help defray the costs associated with the premature death of their loved one.
