Connecticut State Police often rely on 911 calls in car accidents

Obviously, troopers with the Connecticut State Police cannot be everywhere at once. Therefore, they rely on 911 calls to alert them to car accidents on the state's highways and interstates. Not only are they then able to respond to crashes, but they might also be able to get statements from callers who might have witnessed the wreck.

It could take troopers some time to obtain the statements of the many people who made 911 calls regarding a recent crash on Interstate 95. The crash involved two passenger vehicles and a semi truck. At approximately 4:30 a.m., one of the passenger vehicles was in the process of passing the tractor-trailer on the left when it somehow struck the big rig, then veered into the median.

The car then bounced back into the roadway and struck the passenger compartment of another car. During the crash, the 28-year-old driver of the car that was passing the truck was ejected and died from her injuries. A 69-year-old woman who was a passenger in the second car also died. The 72-year-old driver of that car escaped with only minor injuries, and the 27-year-old truck driver was not injured.

As the family of the deceased passenger deals with their loss, they may also exercise their right to file a wrongful death claim against the estate of the deceased alleged at-fault driver. As is the case in other incidents involving car accidents, any physical evidence and witness statements from both the official investigation and/or a private one could be used to prove negligence. Establishing that the victim died due to the negligence of another party could result in a Connecticut civil court entering a monetary judgment in favor of the family.
