Serious Injuries… Competent Lawyers Daños Serios… Abogados Competentes

Some car accidents are due to objects flying off other vehicles

Most Connecticut drivers focus on their responsibilities to pay attention to the road, act and react appropriately and avoid distractions while they drive. Vehicle maintenance is another component to driving that can just as easily lead to car accidents if a driver is not careful. Failing to maintain a vehicle and/or make sure that the vehicle's parts are properly secured and in good working condition could cause an object to fly off the vehicle and smash into one or more others.

Recently, a flying tire led to the death of a Connecticut man. Initial reports from the Connecticut State Police show that a vehicle with a camp-trailer attached was heading southbound on Route 8. As it approached exit 19, the rear left tire of the camp-trailer came off and flew across the median into the northbound lanes of travel.

The tire smashed through the windshield of a northbound vehicle in the left lane. Not surprisingly, the driver lost control of his vehicle. It hit a car in the right lane, veered off the right shoulder and down an embankment.

The car came to rest between two trees. The driver survived, but suffered serious injuries. At last report, the 44-year-old man remained hospitalized in serious condition.

As he recovers, he will more than likely incur a significant amount of medical costs, lost income and other damages. A successfully litigated personal injury claim in which negligence on the part or one or more parties is proved could result in an award of damages seen in other car accidents. Any restitution received could help with the financial losses incurred by the victim. Any of the occupants of the second vehicle that was struck who may have suffered serious injuries could also file claims.
