Reconstruction teams uncover causes of car accidents

When law enforcement officers in Connecticut -- or elsewhere for that matter -- respond to a crash, they conduct as detailed an investigation as possible in order to determine what happened. However, not all car accidents are easy to understand, and determining which driver was at fault could require a more in-depth investigation. It is this type of situation when an accident reconstruction team might be called in to determine how a crash occurred.

Recently, an accident reconstruction team was dispatched to U.S. Route 44 in West Hartford to determine how a crash occurred that killed one driver and sent the other to the hospital. The officers who were called to the scene were unable to adequately determine what happened. Preliminary reports indicate that the eastbound vehicle veered into the oncoming lane of traffic at approximately 3 p.m. on a Wednesday afternoon and crashed into a westbound SUV. The only other information known at this time is that the woman in the eastbound vehicle was reportedly driving erratically and aggressively shortly before the accident.

The 33-year-old Connecticut woman suffered fatal injuries in the impact to which she succumbed at the scene. The man driving the SUV suffered injuries that were only described as not being life-threatening. He was transported to a hospital in the area, but his current condition was not reported.

Even non-life threatening injuries can serious and require extensive recovery time. Medical costs can add up quickly, along with other damages often incurred in car accidents. The driver of the SUV retains the right to file a personal injury claim against the estate of the eastbound driver. The details gathered by law enforcement officials could provide him with evidence that her actions caused his injuries. Successfully doing so could result in a monetary judgment for the damages he requests from the court.
