Investigations into motorcycle accidents can take a long time

Law enforcement officials here in Connecticut and around the country are not always able to conclude an investigation in the weeks or months that follow a crash. In some cases, families have to wait a significant amount of time before having the answers they seek regarding the death of a loved one. This could be true for car, truck or motorcycle accidents.

Distracted driving or impairment frequent cause of car accidents

For decades now, drivers here in Connecticut and across the country have been warned of the dangers of drinking and driving. In recent years, the prolific use of cell phones behind the wheel has prompted a separate campaign to keep people from using their phones while driving. Either one of these activities can lead to car accidents, but when they are combined, the potential for serious or fatal crashes increases dramatically.

Car accidents and comparative negligence in Connecticut

Many motor vehicle crashes are not as simple as one person made a mistake and another was seriously injured or killed as a result. Often, car accidents are the result of each party involved bearing some responsibility. For this reason, the state of Connecticut uses the law of comparative negligence, which still allows a victim -- or the victim's family in the case of death -- to receive restitution as long as the victim is not determined by the court to be 51 percent or more responsible.

Bicycle riders can suffer serious injuries in car accidents

Like pedestrians, bicycle riders are particularly vulnerable as they travel the same Connecticut streets as motor vehicles. If they are involved in car accidents, their injuries are often more severe than those of the occupants of the vehicles involved. Recovering from those injuries could take a significant amount of time, and even then, the victim may never fully recover.
