Head injuries are common in pedestrian vs. car accidents

It could be argued that pedestrians are the most vulnerable users of Connecticut's roadways since they have no protections from impacts. Due to their vulnerability, head injuries are common in pedestrian vs. car accidents, and they cannot only cause death, but can threaten a victim's ability to fully recover and have a normal life. Even knowing this, people often have no choice but to be in close proximity to vehicles and cross streets in order to get to their destinations.

It remains to be seen whether the head injury received by a 57-year-old Connecticut woman will have lasting repercussions. At last report, she remained hospitalized and was considered to be in critical condition. She received the head injury, along with injuries to her leg and chest, when a car struck her as she crossed the street.

Emergency responders called in a helicopter to transport the severely injured woman to Hartford Hospital. Preliminary reports from police indicate that the accident occurred at approximately 2 p.m. on a recent Wednesday. Officials are asking anyone who might have witnessed the crash to contact them as they continue investigating.

It could be some time before the woman recovers from her injuries. In the meantime, she is undoubtedly incurring a significant amount of medical bills, could be losing income and sustaining other damages often incurred in the aftermath of pedestrian vs. car accidents. A personal injury claim could be filed against the driver of the vehicle that struck her, which might provide her with the monetary restitution she needs for her current and future medical care. If she is able to establish that her injuries were due to the negligence of another, the court might enter a monetary judgment in her favor.
