Pedestrian vs. car accidents often end in death or serious injury

Most pedestrians in Connecticut and elsewhere expect there to be an increased amount of danger when crossing the street or being forced to walk within close proximity to traffic in order to get to their destinations. This is evidenced by the fact that the majority of pedestrian vs. car accidents take place under these conditions. Therefore, when pedestrians are on designated sidewalks, they expect a certain amount of safety and do not expect to be struck by a vehicle.

Sadly, even the sidewalk failed to provide any safety recently when a car struck two individuals as they walked down a sidewalk in a Connecticut city. Preliminary reports from the Connecticut State Police indicate that a passenger car veered off the roadway and onto the sidewalk where the two unsuspecting pedestrians were. Both victims, a 69-year-old man and a 67-year-old woman, initially survived the crash and were transported to the hospital via helicopter.

Sadly, the man succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. At last report, the woman remained hospitalized, but no further information regarding her condition was available. The accident remains under investigation, and it is not yet known whether any criminal charges will be filed against the driver.

The emotional, psychological and economic devastation that follows in the wake of car accidents can put a significant amount of stress and pressure on a grieving family. When a family member dies in an accident, surviving loved ones retain the right to file wrongful death claims against the party or parties believed responsible in order to seek restitution for damages such as medical bills, funeral expenses and lost income, among other things. Those who survive such tragedies can also incur a significant amount of damages that might be recovered in a personal injury claim.
