Police often need help in hit-and-run motorcycle accidents

Some drivers here in Connecticut and elsewhere fail to stop after being involved in a crash. Police may need help locating these drivers in hit-and-run car and motorcycle accidents. Surveillance can provide them with images of vehicles -- and even people on occasion -- that are then released to the public in an attempt to locate the party or parties believed to be responsible.

Police located an image of a silver Acura MDX that is believed to have been involved in the death of a 31-year-old man. When they arrived at the scene, medics were attending to the fallen motorcyclist. That was at 2:05 a.m., and by 2:39 a.m., the man had succumbed to the injuries he suffered in the impact.

The wreckage of his motorcycle was found in the street, but the other vehicle involved was nowhere to be seen. Additional officers arrived at the scene to report that they believe the motorcycle at the scene was doing a "wheelie" approximately eight blocks from where the crash occurred. Witnesses were not able to provide much information regarding what happened. Therefore, New Haven police released the image of the vehicle believed to be involved and are asking the public to help locate it and its driver.

In the meantime, the victim's family needs answers. When the driver is located, they might not only get some answers but might also exercise their right to file a wrongful death claim in a Connecticut civil court. Establishing that the other driver was negligent and caused or contributed to the death of their loved one could result in the entry of a monetary judgment. Any restitution received could help with the unexpected financial impact that comes with fatal motorcycle accidents.
