Serious Injuries… Competent Lawyers Daños Serios… Abogados Competentes

Motorcycle accidents can have invisible effects

Motorcycle accidents can be devastating, even if you feel like you got out of it relatively unscathed. Some injuries are less apparent than others, and especially if another party in the accident was seriously injured in a visible and sensational way, you may not have gotten the medical help you need. One of the most common injuries that can occur and subsequently go undiagnosed in a motorcycle accident is a mild traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Mild TBI's are confusingly named, in that they are mild compared to a much more severe brain injury that may leave someone in a coma or without motor functions, but they are still very serious — and difficult to detect. If you have been in a motorcycle accident, even if you were wearing a helmet, it is very likely that you suffered some form of mild TBI. The effects of a mild TBI are individually slight, but can build up over time to be crippling, and the symptoms may last up to a year after the initial accident.

Those who experience a mild TBI may find that they cannot understand context in conversations, or perform simple tasks without becoming very frustrated. They may also find that they are very forgetful or unable to concentrate. Increased irritability and problems comprehending or communicating with your coworkers or family members for up to a year can easily dismantle your career or home life. It is crucial to get the help that you need to identify whether you may have suffered a mild TBI before it is too late.

A mild TBI can be the basis of a personal injury suit, just like any other serious injury. If you were injured in a motorcycle accident, no matter what the injury may be, it is wise to have your experience professionally evaluated by a qualified attorney. With proper legal counsel, you can create a plan for pursuing justice and ensure that your rights remain protected.
