Hartford supreme court to hear wrongful death case

Tragically, many people lose their lives in accidents each year. Sometimes, however, the law is not clear about who is truly responsible for a wrongful death, and the court must examine the details of the matter. Just such a case that is both heartbreaking and fascinating is currently unfolding right here in the Hartford Superior Court. Jury selection has begun for the trial, which may set very important legal precedent.

The case began nearly five-and-a-half years ago down in Stamford, when a Christmas morning fire claimed five lives. The family lost three children and both of the mother's parents in the fire, and proceeded to sue the city of Stamford on behalf of their lost loved ones.

To add frustration to heartbreak, the city demolished the home the day after the fire, which the couple claimed was done to hide evidence of the city's culpability for a poor home inspection that they believe contributed to the fire. Sadly, the father also passed away just a few months ago, in February. Now, only the mother survives to fight for the memories of her lost family.

While this is a heartbreaking and extreme example of a wrongful death suit stretching out far longer than it should, it also serves as an excellent reminder that wrongful death can take many forms. If you believe that your loved one wrongfully lost his or her life, it is always wise to consult with an experienced attorney to help identify any parties who may hold some or all of the responsibility for the death.

With proper legal counsel, you can confidently explore your options for pursuing justice. While this process is never easy, it is not a path you have to walk alone. An experienced attorney will stand to fight for your loved ones' memories and protect your rights as you seek justice for their loss.
