Dog Bites:
According to the Centers for Disease Control (Atlanta), over 4.7 million people are bitten by dogs annually. Almost 800,000 bites per year are serious enough to require medical attention, and in more than half of these cases, children are the victims. Usually, severe bites require a hospital stay of about four days. Furthermore, an average of 17 people die each year from dog bites. These bites cause over a billion dollars of damage each year. In almost every case, the owner of the dog is liable to pay for any injuries their dog causes, whether or not the dog is on a leash. Owners may be held liable for all damage caused by their pets. For example, if a dog runs into the street and causes a car or bicycle accident, the owner may be liable for that as well.
