Dog Bites:
- Seek medical attention.
- Immediately report your accident to the police and request a copy of the police accident report.
- If possible obtain the name and contact information of the animal owner.
- Try to get the name and contact information of any people who witnessed your accident.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (Atlanta), over 4.7 million people are bitten by dogs annually. Almost 800,000 bites per year are serious enough to require medical attention, and in more than half of these cases, children are the victims. Usually, severe bites require a hospital stay of about four days. Furthermore, an average of 17 people die each year from dog bites. These bites cause over a billion dollars of damage each year. In almost every case, the owner of the dog is liable to pay for any injuries their dog causes, whether or not the dog is on a leash. Owners may be held liable for all damage caused by their pets. For example, if a dog runs into the street and causes a car or bicycle accident, the owner may be liable for that as well.
