Boating and Swimming Accidents

Most swimming pool accidents and injuries happen because of improperly designed and constructed pools, failure to properly secure a pool from small children, construct a gate or a fence, and failure to maintain the swimming pool in good condition.

If you have been injured in a pool, or your property is damaged in a boating accident, you may be entitled to money for your injury and/or property damage, as well as for time missed from work, including pain and suffering.

Tips

  • Don't overload your boat (the maximum number of people your boat can hold is the length X width divided by 15)
  • Make sure each person on your boat is wearing a PFD (personal flotation device, or lifejacket)
  • Check the weather conditions before you go boating
  • Be careful with your fuel supply—use 1/3 going out, 1/3 coming back, and keep 1/3 as a reserve
  • If you're boating at night, make sure your boat is lit properly
  • Watch out for other boaters and cross-wakes
  • Do not operate a boat if you have consumed alcohol
  • If you own a pool, make sure small children can't get into it by putting up a fence or a gate
  • Your pool should be properly constructed and installed
  • If you are using a pool, be careful of slippery surfaces
  • Most importantly, watch your children
